I know this question has been asked many time over the past 5 years, but this completely blows my mind. We are well down that slippery drainpipe, heading for the sea of boiling animal waste that awaits the legacy of the Founding Fathers, and all the ideals that made this country a place people from all over the world wanted to be a part of.
I've been way too busy to get on here, but this just couldn't be pushed aside. This is almost the ultimate Orwellian occurence.
What will it take for people to wake up and smell the manure?

It's insane, but ... wake up and do what? Evidently all manner of goofy regs have been pushed through, all slipping under any decent radar because a few big items -- harrassing librarians, expanded phone taps -- get all the attention.
But this should be a great big warning to those few who still haven't got it: Power drives to power. Just because the people making decisions are Americans who swore to uphold the Constitution doesn't mean that those decisions, made within their own narrow interests, won't be Orwellian in their results.
Yet ... do what? Write to Sen.'s Feinstein and Boxer? Maybe they did all they could. Maybe they saw the presentation that convinced them this was a harmless thing to give on in trade for something else. Who knows? What can you do? I'm tempted to dump the stock and pay off half my house just to see what happens.
I still can't make sense of this one, though. It's like HS has decided to flag anything that changes. Pay off debt: Alert! Stop paying off debt: Alert!
It's like a list I saw once telling you what to look for if your spouse is cheating on you. In all seriousness it included
"Decreased interest in sex"
and
"Increased interest in sex"
in the same list.
I'm tempted to go buy the wrong shoe size and see what happens.
If you by the wrong shoe size, you will be carted off to a prison hulk in the Potomac and forced to scrape barnacles off WW2 era cargo ships in the Washington Navy Yard and eat nothing but thin hominy porridge for the next 15 years.
Seriously though, what to do is vote in huge numbers in November and restore some sense fo balance in Washington. In doing so, maybe the public can achieve a balance in perception of lawmakers as well, and some of this weird shit can get undone. The public needs to wake up and not just follow along because some fat bald fuck who can't shoot straight said we are supposed to be afraid. I can't help it, Man. It makes me mad. IT Iraqis can turn out 89% or whatever under threat of death, then we should be able to turn out 100%. If that happened, a change would be made.
HS is a massive department and there are probably people in there who have all to completely absorbed the philosophy of looking under every stone in case Abdul is hiding there with a suitcase nuke.
Well, I'll vote in the hugest numbers I can. But if the choice is between Tweedledumb and Tweedledumber, I'm not sure what good it will do. I'm not going to vote for some wing-pandering bullshitter just to balance out the other wing-pandering bullshitter. I do what I can in the primaries. After that it's all crosswinds and Isaac Newton.
Well, in November 2004, it's fairly clear, Tweedledumbest and Tweedleevilest got elected. Remember, wing-oandering bullshitters coem from both ends. In 2004, we were offered one from the right and one from the middle. In 2002, people voted Fear and look what we got, a republic going down the tubes.
